Letter from the Chairman - February 2024

Chairman John Wood writes:

The Village litter pick on Sunday 24 March 2024 is fast approaching.  The spring clean of the village with be coordinated by Steve Lyons, who will need an army of willing volunteers to spruce up the verges, the play area, the outside gym, and pirate ship on the Recreation Ground.  The event will start from the Village Hall from 10:00 so please make a date to come and join the Big Village Spring Clean.   In the interim if you feel there are areas that could be addressed by the Village Steward, please contact Cllr Steve Lyons or use the tasking form on the Parish Council website.

The bulbs in the new planters in the village are beginning to show and as Spring fast approaches they will provide a burst of colour in the coming months.  If you would like to adopt a planter, please contact Cllr Lyons or the Parish Clerk who can provide you with the planter, compost, and plants to get started and Tom Earle can provide free bat and bird box kits for parishioners to put up in their gardens and open spaces.

As the days begin to get longer and the weather improves the Speed Watch Team are looking to provide a greater curb side presents to calm the traffic through the village, which we know has help to lower the speed of vehicles along the High Street.  To be effective the Team needs to increase numbers to spread the load and have a greater visibility.  If you feel passionate about the speed of the traffic through the village please come and join the Speed Watch Team, the training  takes about 1 hour and you will have the satisfaction of making a positive contribution to the local community.  Please contact Cllr Peter Knowlson or the Parish Clerk for more details.

Our next Parish Council Meeting is scheduled for Thursday 07 March 2024 at 7.00 pm at Collingbourne Village Hall. Parish Council Meetings are open events, which members of the public are more than welcome to attend. If any parishioners wish to get involved in any of the activities, including Speed Watch or just want to contact with the Parish Council, do feel free to email the Parish Clerk, Mr Phil Gill, parishclerk@collingbourne-ducis.com.
